The system, making its World Cup debut in Brazil, judged Honduras goalkeeper, Noel Valladares, to have scored an own goal.

A shot from France forward Karim Benzema struck the right post of Valladares’ goal before the ball came back along the line towards the keeper.

Valladares fumbled the rebound, pushing the ball towards his own goal.

The goal-line technology system immediately notified the officials that the ball had crossed the line but the tension grew in the stadium as all looked to the screens for the replays and the final verdict.

The goal was given and France won the match 3-0, with Benzema scoring the other goals.
