Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitić lamented the decision by referee Yuichi Nishimura to fail to send off Brazil forward Neymar midway through the first half.

The Barcelona man was booked after catching Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić with a stray arm.

However, several Croatian players felt the punishment should have been stronger and Sevilla ace Rakitić believes Neymar should have seen read.

Football Espana quoted the 26-year-old, he said: “Neymar is a great player, a real crack, one of the best players in the world, but he deserved a red card for the incident with Modric.”

The Sevilla ace pondered what might have happened had Neymar been sent off, before he scored twice to help Brazil achieve a 3-1 win.

He added: “If the referee had sent him off he wouldn’t have been on the pitch to score two goals.”
