Brazil’s two-goal hero has said that his side worked hard to achieve the 3-1 win against Croatia.

“It was better than I expected, it is a great happiness. We"re a team that runs a lot and strives, then whoever is in front of needs figuring out. [The first game] is always harder because you are waiting, anxiously," Neymar told the media.

The Barcelona forward struck the equaliser after Croatia had taken the lead and then scored the penalty that put them 2-1 up. But Neymar could be considered lucky to have still been on the pitch to score the goals.

He said: “My hand hit Modric in the face, I even apologised. I was trying to protect myself, but it is up to the referee. If he saw malice he could have given me the [red] card, but I had no malice."
