Niko Kovac believes that he and his side are prepared to face the World Cup hosts in today’s opener.

Speaking to the press, Kovac played down his own concerns and said that it could actually be the Brazilians who have had sleepless nights.

“I"m not losing my sleep. I had six months to study the Brazil team. Our captain Dario [Srna] has an answer for Neymar. We know what we can expect," said Kovac.

“In Croatia we also have world-class players. And as we are thinking about them, they are also thinking of us. I think [Luiz-Felipe] Scolari is also losing a little sleep.

“Brazil looked a little tired against Serbia on Friday and the pressure of performing well at home is already everywhere.

Kovac said that the expectation that Brazil will win, and do so in style, could play into Croatia’s hands.

“It seems that not only everyone expects them to win, but also show beautiful football, and therein lies our chance. The more we cling, the more eager they will be.

“Certainly we will not ‘park the bus" in our penalty area. We are confident we can get a result. They won 15 of the last 16 games, but I know which tactics to use."
