Former Lyon midfielder Juninho Pernambucano has praised Italian Andrea Pirlo and described him as a “demon.”

The Brazilian midfielder was widely regarded as one of the best free kick takers in world football during his lengthy spell in Europe and has recently lauded the new set piece king.

Juventus midfielder Pirlo is credited as one of the best free kick takers now and Juninho certainly agrees.

The 39-year-old spoke to SporTV, with Football Italia reporting his comments. Juninho said: “Pirlo is a demon.

“He has not only copied my shot, but improved it. If I was still playing I’d try and get hold of him, and ask him to teach me that technique.”

A free kick competition between Juninho and Pirlo would certainly be worth watching and Brazilians may witness some special strikes from the Italian in the World Cup.

Italy start their campaign on Saturday night against England and Pirlo’s free kicks are sure to be vital.
