João Miranda has conceded he was disappointed not to receive a call up to the Brazil World Cup squad but will be cheering them on nevertheless with the tournament due to start in just two days times.

The Atlético Madrid defender was sensational last season as he helped his club win the La Liga title and reach the Champions League final.

Many had predicted that Miranda had done enough to earn himself a call up to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad but unfortunately it wasn’t forthcoming.

The 29-year-old spoke to Radio Espn recently, with Sky Sports quoting the Atlético ace.

Miranda said: “I was sad (when I was not called up). I was hopeful of getting called up and it was a big disappointment not to have been.

“I am in a very good moment both technically and physically. I could be helping the national team by being one of the 23 but I will be supporting them.”

Although the Brazilian was understandably disappointed to miss out on representing his country, his wonderful 2013/14 campaign could earn him a big money move to another big European club.

He has been linked with both Barcelona and Manchester United recently and could be leaving Atlético soon.
