Brazil defender David Luiz has expressed his desire to get the World Cup underway as expectation levels rise ahead of Thursday’s opener with Croatia in Sao Paulo.

In an interview with O Globo, the PSG-bound centre-back said: “I’m very excited to play thsi game. We can not wait to start the World Cup.”

“We always want to evolve. We have a week to adjust the final details, but if the game was tomorrow we were (sic) prepared. We are in the final stretch.”

“I’m calm and willing to help Scolari, whether entering as a starter or as a substitute. I’ve been training well and every minute I give my best. Scolari is to decide. All the players are important for selection.”

Luiz will line up at the back with national captain Thiago Silva, who he will link up with in Paris next season, should his expected move from Chelsea go through.
