Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has joked he may need a gun to stop Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the 2014 World Cup.

Many are predicting Brazil and Argentina will face each other in the blockbuster tournament and Silva has praised his fellow South American.

The 29-year-old spoke to BLOCK magazine about the World Cup and unsurprisingly expects Messi to be a big threat.

Goal.com quoted Silva, he said: “How will I stop Messi? He can only be stopped with a gun.

“He’s the player who keeps you awake upfront when the rest of the team is working the ball. When the game goes to one side of the field, he will be all alone on the other.

“Despite his injuries this last season he will be a big threat at the World Cup.”

Although a lot depends on the necessary results of the two teams it seems likely that Brazil and Argentina will face each other at some stage of the World Cup.

And should that be the case, the whole nation will be willing Silva on to stop the Barcelona ace and if anyone can, the PSG and Brazil skipper can.
