Fernandão dies in helicopter accident
The former Internacional and Goiás striker, Fernando Lúcio da Costa, died at around 02:00 in Goiás this Saturday.
The 36-year-old had been travelling from his home in Aruanã to the capital, according to GloboEsporte.com.
The president of the Gaucho Football Federation, Francisco Novelletto, has confirmed the reports of Fernandão’s death.
Idolised by Goiás and Inter, Fernandão twice won the Campeonato Gaucho with the latter, along with the Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup in 2006.
The forward retired in 2011 after playing for São Paulo, French clubs Marseille and Toulouse, and Al-Gharafa of Qatar.
