Brazil's World Cup group opponents suffered contrasting fortunes in their final warm-up games yesterday evening, with Mexico losing and Croatia sneaking a win.

The Croatians, who face the tournament hosts in the opening game in Sao Paulo this coming Thursday, had Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic to thank for a 1-0 win over Australia in Bahia.

Mexico, on the other hand, fell to deafeat by the same scoreline against Portugal in Massachusetts, Bruno Alves bagging in the third minute of injury time to give Mexico a cruel loss in the final moments of the game.

The North American country will play Brazil in the second round of the group stage, on Tuesday 17th June in Fortaleza.

Group A's other team, Cameroon, play their final preparation game tonight in their capital Yaounde against European minnows Moldova.
