Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has told reporters ahead of the World Cup that even Neymar will have his off days during the tournament and that there should be some leeway in expectation of the 22 year-old’s performances.

The Barcelona star has come in for some criticism in hus first year since leaving Santos, although his international form has continued to impress Selecao followers.

Scolari said about the situation: “Even when a player doesn’t play well, if he makes an effort, for us it’s marvellous, because not only is he excellent as a player, but also as a a person and member of the group.”

“Neymar is part of a group, he has extraordinary talent, but he has his off days like everybody else. The group has to help him out.”

Neymar scored his 31st international goal in the 4-0 warm-up win over Panama on Tuesday and is set to feature against Serbia in Brazil’s final preparation game this evening in Sao Paulo.
