Brazil captain Thiago Silva has explained his pre-match ritual ahead of the World Cup, which gets under way in a week’s time.

The PSG defender told reporters at Selecao’s tournament training headquarters, Granja Comary, that there are two things he has to do before taking the field for his country.

The 29 year-old said: “Before entering the field, I kneel in front of my shirt and I ask God to bless and protect the players on my team and the opponents.”

“I always try to use my right foot to walk onto the field and I make the sign of the cross three times.”

45-times capped Silva has been having his fitness monitored ahead of the Group A opener with Croatia on June 12 in Sao Paulo.
