Santos signed off for the summer break ahead of Brazil’s hosting of the World Cup with a 2-0 home win over Criciuma after another goal from a young man who could well be representing the selecao in four year’s time.

Teenage sensation Gabriel Barbosa helped himself to a 14th goal of 2014 after justv 11 minutes of this encounter and was on hand again seven minutes later to assist Diego Cardoso in doubling Santos’ lead.

The form of the likes of ‘Gabigol’ and Geuvanio has alleviated the disappointment felt by fans at the little impact Brazil striker Leandro Damiao has had at the club since a multi-million pound transfer from Internacional in the close season.

The league now has a recess until July 15, when Santos will host palmeiras; in the meantime, Gabriel and co. sit in ninth place in the Brasileirao table after nine league games.
