Injuries continue to dominate the news prior to the World Cup and Spain manager Vicente del Bosque is unsure if Atlético Madrid forward Diego Costa will be fit in time.

The Brazilian born forward controversially switched allegiance to the Spainish national team prior to the tournament and was expected to be a pivotal player for del Bosque.

However, end of season injuries are holding the forward back and he may yet be forced to miss out on representing Spain in his home country.

The Spain manager told Gol that he was “cautiously optimistic”, Inside Spanish Football quoted the 63-year-old: “I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m not sure Diego Costa will be fit in time.

“Diego Costa was examined on Tuesday by the national team doctors, Celada and Cota, who confirmed the diagnosis of a muscle injury by their colleague, Dr. Guillen.

“We have time to think about it, but we’re in the hands of the medical staff. We must be cautious.”

The initial news doesn’t sound great for Costa but he’ll be praying he can recover in time and show the Brazilian public what they are missing out on.
