2013 Brasileirao champions Cruzeiro missed the chance to go four points clear in this year’s championship after Corinthians held out to record a 1-0 home win in the teams’ penultimate fixture before the World Cup takes precedence in Brazil.

With no games to be played during the international tournament, Brazilian clubs will have a rest period after this coming weekend and Cruzeiro will be kicking themselves after learning that second-place Fluminense also lost away at Atletico Mineiro.

Paulo Guerrero’s 68th minute strike means that Corinthians are now just a point behind their opponents with Botafogo to come this weekend, again at home. Cruzeiro, meanwhile, must host Flamengo safe in the knowledge that Fluminense will be looking to bounce back as well.

The Rio de Janeiro side lost at Mineiro thanks to goals from James Datolo and Diego Tardelli.
