Atlético Madrid’s Diego confirms he is close to Fenerbahçe move
Atlético Madrid midfielder Diego has revealed that his next club will be Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
The Brazilian spoke to Globo Esporte about his future and confirmed that most details have been agreed with the Turkish champions, although the deal isn’t finished yet.
Sky Sports quoted the 29-year-old, he said: "Fenerbahçe and I already have an agreement (with) numbers and everything else. Now I need to undergo the medical and finalise all situations.
"There are still details left, but there is a big chance I will sign a contract with them. I have already started the process of cancelling the contract with Atlético.
“Then I'll go to Istanbul to undergo the medical and finalise the deal. I think that will happen at the start of next week."
Diego has been linked with a return to his former side Santos but it appears that dream has now evaporated. The playmaker enjoyed something of a renaissance under Diego Simeone and scored some crucial goals for Atlético.
And the Brazilian confirmed that his decision wasn’t influenced by their Champions League final defeat.
He added: "The defeat in the Champions League final didn't have any influence. Of course I was very sad but it was all a matter of reaching an agreement, their interest and mine. We reached an agreement."
