Cruzeiro striker Julio Baptista is on his way out of the club and making a move to Santos, according to reports circulating in the Brazilian press this morning.

The 32 year-old, who helped Cruzeiro win the Serie A title in his first season with the club, is thought to be the subject of a deal to link up with Leandro Damiao before the World Cup gets underway.

Lancenet claim that although Baptista has a contract that runs until 2015, negotiations have started between the two clubs about a transfer.

Although any future financial benefit would be non-existent to Santos considering the player’s age, Santos’ management committee have expressed a genuine interest in the player.

Baptista agent and also brother, simply said: “So far nothing has happened. In fact, he signed (with Cruzeiro) for two years and nothing has been mentioned.”

Baptista’s colourful career has seen him play for Real Madrid, Arsenal, Roma, Sevilla and Sao Paulo.
