Germany captain Philipp Lahm insists he is not going to Brazil to “soak up the sun”
Germany captain Philipp Lahm has insisted he is not going to Brazil to “soak up the sun.”
The 30 year-old, who has been capped 105 times by the Nationalmannschaft, believes only winning will suffice for Joachim Löw’s side, after crashing out at the semi-final stage in both 2006 and 2010, as well as at Euro 2012.
“I do not want to go out in the semi-finals again or visit Brazil to soak up the sun," he told FIFA.com.
"I have a clear goal, to achieve the biggest possible success and win the World Cup. We have the necessary punch to win the title, but we must be sure that the talent and ego of every individual provides only for the team's benefit.”
Germany have been drawn in Group G alongside Ghana, Portugal and United States. Their first match of the tournament is against Portugal on 16 June at the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador.
