Angela Merkel has confirmed that she will attend Germany’s opening match with Portugal in Salvador on June 16.
The three-time World Cup winners will also face Ghana and the USA in the group stage, and Merkel is hopeful that they will go all the way to the final.
In an interview with Leipziger Volkszeitung, she said: “I will be at the first game and I hope Joachim Löw and his team compete in more than six games in Brazil.”
