Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has not given up hope that Brazilian-born talisman Diego Costa can make the Champions League final this Saturday against Real Madrid after limping off in the title-winning draw with Barcelona at the weekend.

The side from the capital won an historic La Liga, their first since 1996, in the Camp Nou a few days ago, but an early substitution involving Costa looked to have ruled him out of the game in Lisbon in four days’ time.

Simeone told reporters ahead of the game: “We still have a few days, and I will not say anything yet. It’s too early. Let’s wait for news about injuries to Costa and (Turkey international Turan) Arda.”

“If necessary, we will choose alternatives according to what we need. Ths is not a game for players who are 80%. Obviously we need players who are in good condition.”

“On Saturday, we will need 100% attention. I am sure the players will respond the way they have always responded.”
