The São Paulo born defender has enjoyed a decent campaign in Ukraine with Dnipro and has made 12 appearances in the Premier League this season. The 24-year-old has settled well since moving from Vasco da Gama in 2013 and is now dreaming of an international call-up. This week Douglas spoke exclusively to Sambafoot.com.

How has your experience in Ukraine been?

It has been a very good experience, sportingly and humanly. I am learning a new culture, a new language. I take this opportunity to the fullest. Learning the language is essential, I can already communicate in Ukraine. The first few months were complicated but it is getting better.

You have moved to the position of central defender. What are your main characteristics?

I’m pretty big, 190 cm. I’m comfortable in the passing game but I run fast too. I like the duels without being violent. I avoid making many mistakes. It is important for me to recover the ball and play simple. A central defender should not improvise.

You are 24-years-old, with experience in Europe and the doors of the Champions League opening. How do you rate your career?

Dnipro are going through one of the best phases in their history. We were ready to win the title and we should play in the Champions League. This is unprecedented in the history of the club. I am very happy. I have a big goal in my career to play in a major European league and for a big club.

Do you have any preferences?

Germany interests me. For me, this is one of the best leagues in the world.

What do you think of the championship in France?

It is a championship that I am interested in as there are always a lot of Brazilians. Paris Saint-Germain is a great team with a great project, they have a great staff. Monaco is also in progress and I think Marseille will return to the top three next season. The level increases each year with the arrival of foreign investment and great players.

Is the Brazilian team is a goal for yourself in the future?

Yes it’s true, I often think about this. There is a lot of competition, a lot of players, but it is not impossible. There are several factors that can influence, as does wearing the jersey of a visible team. I hope I can realise this dream.
