Defender Nicolas Otamendi has thanked Atletico Mineiro after playing what is probably his last game for the club in their 2-1 win at Santos last night.

The Argentine is part of his country’s World Cup squad and is on loan at the Brazilian side from Valencia, where he joined in January of this year. Immediately loaned out to Mineiro, Otamendi was brought in to bolster their Copa Libertadores ambitions but will return to Spain at the end of the summer.

He told Lance: “I wanted to leave Atletico optimally and well in the championship. I’m glas we have a large group, I’ve made friends and the fans ghave affection for me. I hope to return one day.”

The 26 year-old leaves Mineiro after two straight league wins lifted them up to 11th in the Serie A table as they bid to qualify for the Libertadores for the third year running.
