Coutinho and Rafael in Brazil but on social business
Two of the men that didn't quite make the cut when head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari named his final World Cup squad of 23 have been out at a fancy dress party in their homeland as they bid to make the most of their post-season extended break.
Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho and Rafael of Manchester United decided to let their hair down alongside their wives by dressing as pirates and cowboys at a bash in Brazil after others jumped ahead f them in the World Cup queue.
Coutinho in particular is believed to have been in the reckoning for a call-up after impressing in the latter half of Liverpool's campaign with some stirring performances in the final third.
And Rafael, although having a poor season by Manchester United's lofty standards, would have been in the mix had injury befallen either Daniel Alves or Maicon.
Neither player has made the seven-man list of back-up alternatives announced by Scolari and so the only party they will be attending this summer will be one of the fancy dress variety.
