Italy and PSG midfielder Marco Verratti insists that he will accept not being called up to head coach Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad should that turn out to be the case.

Already named in a 30-man provisional list, the 21 year-old knows that there is a chance he will miss the cut, although the general consensus is that that won’t be the case. Verratti told Tuttosport: “In Italy there are such great players, so to be part of this group is very important.”

“If I do not get called up for the trip to Brazil, it would be disappointing, but I’d hve to accept it with the utmost calm, as it means someone else would have deserved it more than me.”

“In any case, I’d watch every game to cheer on the Azzuri as a fan. I hope Italy can go all the way.”

Prandelli’s men face a tough task even to get out of their group, playing as they will England, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
