Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has named his provisional 25-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, causing little surprise in the process as his tried and tested charges prepare to face off in Group D alongside England, Italy and Costa Rica.

The South American country, who famously won the tournament the last time it was played in Brazil in 1950, are spearheaded by the experienced and potent attacking trio of Liverpool’s Player of the Year Luis Suarez, PSG hitman Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan, the Cerezo Osaka forward who is widely expected to retire from international football following the conclusion of the competition.

Three of the players Tabarez will be looking at to help in terms of inside knowledge are Sebastien Eguren, the Palmeiras midfielder, Botafogo anchor Nicolas Lodeiro and Alvaro Perreira, the Inter Milan wing-back who is on loan at Sao Paulo.

Uruguay get their campaign under way on June 14 against Costa Rica in Fortaleza.
