Corinthians’ proud defensive record fell as they conceded a late goal against Sao Paulo to concede for the first time in the 2014 Brasileirao after almost four games.

A 49th minute opener from defender Fagner, assisted by Paulo Guerrero, looked to have given the away team all three points and with it top spot in Serie A alongside Internacional.

But it was former Brazil striker Luis Fabiano who spoiled Corinthians’ clean sheet status, latching onto a clever reverse pass from Paulo Henrique Ganso in the 81st minute and finishing calmly past keeper Cassio.

Incredibly, it was the first goal Corinthians had conceded in eight games, stretching back to April 16 and encompassing Serie A games, as well as those in the Paulista state championship and the Copa do Brasil.

The result leaves Sao Paulo in 10th place in the Brasileirao, whilst third-placed Corinthians will be looking to get their defensive stronghold back on track against rock-bottom Figueirense next Sunday.
