Flamengo defender Frickson Erazo has been named in the Ecuador squad for the forthcoming World Cup in Brazil, after head coach Reinaldo Rueda revealed a list of 24 players, one of whom will miss out on final selection by June 2.

Erazo, who joined the Rio de Janeiro giants ahead of the 2014 season from Barcelona Sporting Club in his homeland, has 34 caps to his name and has scored a solitary goal for his country.

The South American country enjoyed a fruitful qualifying campaign, finishing in fourth place and leaving Uruguay to face a play-off on goal difference.

There was, however, the tragic passing of striker Christian Benitez from cardiac arrest at the age of 27 in July of last year, an event which has left the country weaker in footballing terms and farther afield.

Ecuador received a managable draw for the World Cup, with opponents in Group E including France, Switzerland and Honduras.
