Four-time World Cup winners Italy have announced that they are to play a friendly against Brazilian club side Fluminense as part of their preparations for the tournament.

The match will take place on June 8 in Volta Redonda, four days before the start of the World Cup, which will see hosts Brazil take on Croatia in Group A.

Fluminense Vice-President Mario Bittencourt told Goal: “In the year of the World Cup in Brazil, an historic moment for us will see Fluminense face Italy, who have the same colours on their flag as us.” 

Italy’s tournament campaign sees them placed in Group D alonside England, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
