Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli sees Rômulo as an alternative to Emanuele Giaccherini in his World Cup squad
Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli has suggested that Hellas Verona midfielder Rômulo could be an alternative to Emanuele Giaccherini in his World Cup squad.
The Sunderland attacker has been a key player for Prandelli in the past, but his inconsistent form in England may see Brazililan born Rômulo, who has impressed this season, take his place.
“Giaccherini is a valuable player who can play three roles in midfield without the Coach needing to restructure his game, but this year in England he has faced some difficulty,” Prandelli told the Corriere dello Sport.
“Rômulo is a player who has those characteristics, he can play three roles. He is a joker.”
Rômulo has been one of Serie A’s surprise performers. The 26 year-old, who is on loan from Fiorentina, has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 32 appearances for Verona this season.
