The Seleção is now the highest placed South American team in the Fifa rankings.

Brazil has climbed two places to fourth, with only Spain, Germany and Portugal ranked higher than Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side.

Brazil’s Group A opponents this summer all kept their previous positions in the rankings. Mexico and Croatia are 19th and 20th respectively, whilst Cameroon are placed 50th in the world.

Brazil have not been top of the pile since April 2010, before the last World Cup in South Africa.
