The Brazil international has said that it was just his current side, Shakhtar Donetsk, that could match Atletico Mineiro’s €25 asking price last summer.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the attacking midfielder revealed that both North London clubs were chasing his signature.

“We had offers from Tottenham, and according to my Atletico president Arsenal were interested too, but didn’t have the money,” said Bernard.

“All of it happened in a moment. Europe was facing a serious financial crisis, so there was interest from various teams, but the only one able to pay straight away was Shakhtar.”

Although he is not expecting to move this summer, Bernard said that he would consider it if any offer comes in the future and admitted that he had long been a fan of the Premier League.

“It is the best league in the world. I remember watching Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United alongside my dad. Theres no easy game.”
