Atlético Mineiro forward Jô has revealed that a conversation with Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari last night gave him a clue that he would be selected in his 23-man World Cup squad.

The former Manchester City and Everton player spoke with Felipão yesterday, he told Lance about the conversation.

Jô said: “I more or less knew when Scolari called me last night to see if everything was all right and if I was recovering.

“He spoke with Rodrigo Lasmar (Atlético Mineiro’s chief medic) about my injury and he confirmed that it would not prevent me competing in the World Cup.

“But he did not confirmed anything to me. He gave no clues, just asked about the injury and hung up.

“When the Brazilian national team coach calls you to know that you are recovering, it makes you happy.”

Despite the phone call with Scolari, the Atlético striker admitted he was still overwhelmed with happiness at seeing his name on the list.

Jô also revealed how much Felipão cares about his players, he said: “Scolari seeks to leave you with confidence and tries to protect each player.

“This ends up becoming a family. We saw it in each call, how he protects the group, he holds, cares for athletes, as a parent. And we end up doing things, running to him, as a family

“But the anxiety of every player was to see if your name was called. For each player, it has no price, nothing compares to that happiness.”
