Cruzeiro striker Borges has told reporters that he has no intentions of leaving the Brazilian champions in the near future, despite apparent interest from Palmeiras for his services.

The 33 year-old, who has been at the club since 2012, has scored almost a goal every two games and told Superesporte: “I have a contract with Cruzeiro and it never came out of my mouth that I was unhappy with some situation or another.”

“I was out for a while and that happens to every athlete. Hopefully I can return to play the same as last year. I have no doubt that will happen.”

With Cruzeiro entering a crucial part of their season, Borges knows that the entire squad will be utilised by head coach Marcelo Oliveira, as they prepare to face off against Argentine side San Lorenzo in the quarter finals of the Copa Libertadores.

“Everyone knows that our biggest dream is to be a champion. We came out of a difficult first group phase and are fighting til the end. Cruzeiro are one of the favourites in all competitions this season.”
