New Barcelona signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen has told reporters that he is expecting to be named in Germany’s World Cup squad as national managers start to release details of who has made various cuts ahead of the tournament’s start on June 12.

Ter Stegen, 22, made his international debut in 2012 and has gone on to make three appearances for Germany in a generation when the competition for the role is extreme- Bayern Munich stopper Manuel Neuer is the current number one and is rated as perhaps the very best goalkeeper in the world at the present time.

Ter Stegen, who will link up with Barca after agreeing a deal to join from Borussia Monchengladbach, told Bild: “Of course I would be delighted to be with the national team.”

“Apart from my blunder (he scored an own goal against Braunschweig), I have had a good season.”
