Pelé has urged Brazilians to support the country"s players at the World Cup this summer.

Speaking to CNN, the Seleção"s all-time top scorer outlined his hopes that fans would put the anger displayed in recent protests to one side and cheer on the national team.

Millions of Brazilians took to the streets to voice their disapproval of government spending during the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Pelé said: “We accept of course [that] we want the best for our country in terms of schools and hospitals…but the players have nothing to do with this or political corruption. So it"s wrong to boo the players, like [what] happened [at] the Confederations Cup.

“We need to separate these things because the players always show off the best side of Brazil. Let"s support them…because this is a good moment for us," he said.
