The sorry season of Tottenham Hotspur took another turn for the worst earlier this afternoon as they lost to their rivals West Ham for the third time this year and one of their Brazilian contingent was lambasted on twitter following his display.

Spurs lost 2-0 at Upton Park and the fall out from the second goal, scored by Englishman Stewart Downing, has seen Paulinho receive heavy criticism.

The midfielder was part of Tottenham’s wall, alongside Emmanuel Adebayor and various others, that broke far too easily for the supporters liking.

Downing’s kick went straight through and perfectly between Paulinho and Adebayor, who have both been blasted for breaking from the wall and allowing French international Hugo Lloris no chance in goal.

The following tweets give you a decent gage of how the former Corinthians hero is currently seen by fans and journalists watching the White Hart Lane club regularly.

Press Association journalist Simon Peach tweeted: “Paulinho looks like he would rather be anywhere but here.”

Whilst Tottenham fan and writer added: “To play for Tottenham, I’d take a bullet never mind a freekick hitting me!!! Paulinho and Adebayor should be ashamed.”

And fan Daniel Krieg summed up the general disappointment with: “Just seen Spurs game. Paulinho and Adebayor are disgraces. Completely sold out on 2nd goal. Gutless. Don’t blame Lloris for leaving #THFC.”

For many Spurs fans, the display and result today summed up their season and Paulinho will hope to put his difficult season behind him with a triumphant World Cup.
