Barcelona forward Neymar has revealed that his idol growing up was Robinho, as the Brazilian superstar spoke exclusively to Sky Sport Italia.

Robinho and Neymar’s careers have followed similar patterns thus far, with both former Santos number ten’s coming through the Peixe ranks before securing a move to big La Liga clubs.

Robinho joined Real Madrid though, whilst Neymar has recently moved to their rivals Barcelona.

And although the 22-year-old views Robinho as an idol, he will hope to achieve a lot more than the forward has done in his career so far.

The AC Milan forward has unfortunately failed to live up to his potential, as after a promising beginning to his career in Brazil, various moves across European clubs have failed to work out for the 30-year-old.

Nevertheless Neymar still regards him an idol, he said: “My idol as a child was Robinho. He played for Santos and in some of Europe’s biggest clubs. It was my dream to become like Robinho.”

With Robinho eight years younger than Neymar, the current Brazil number ten will hope to have enjoyed much more success than the AC Milan attacker has done since moving to Europe when he looks back after reaching the milestone age of 30.
