Fernandinho is pleased the Premier League title race has continued changing as Manchester City now have their future in their own hands.

When City dropped points at home to Sunderland recently after losing to Liverpool it seemed the Reds would win the title.

However, Liverpool were defeated by Chelsea on Sunday and the Brazilian midfielder now believes Man City won’t let this opportunity slip.

Fernandinho told Daily Mirror: “It changed a lot. We’re back with a big chance of being champions again.

“We’re not depending on other teams – it only depends on us, and that has changed a lot.

“It gives you energy because mentality is 70 per cent of your body, and a result like that changes everything – your mind, your motivation, everything.

“When your head is good, your body is good as well.”

The point the Manchester side picked up against Sunderland now appears vital, and it came thanks to a last minute equaliser.

Fernandinho hopes it is decisive in the title race, he added: “At that time the most important thing was to win the game.

“But if you look at it now, maybe that point against Sunderland at home could make all the difference in future – we will see.”
