Willian focused only on Chelsea and not Brazil despite Champions League exit
Chelsea midfielder Willian was bitterly disappointed to lose to Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge and in the process miss out on a spot in the final.
The Brazilian and his team mates would have been confident of achieving victory over the Spanish side but a 3-1 home defeat means the only silverware available for the Blues this season is the Premier League title.
Willian told FIFA about his frustration, he said: “We battled hard to get to the final. Losing in a semi-final always hurts. We are frustrated, but we will lift our heads and focus on the next challenge.”
Another challenge awaiting Willian is securing a starting position in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team for the World Cup.
The Brazilian, however, isn’t focusing on that just yet but did discuss his versatility across the attacking midfield positions.
“Who will decide these things like positions is the coach,” Willian told Globo.
“I have been playing well both in the middle and on the side, I am very well suited for both positions. I have no problem playing any of them.
“I’m not thinking about selection now, I’m thinking only about Chelsea and these two games we have left in the league.”
