Filipe Luís praised the Atlético Madrid fans after they roared their team onto a Champions League semi-final win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, many felt Chelsea would have too much for the Spanish team but Atlético again showed their quality and recorded a 3-1 aggregate success.

Filipe Luís spoke to AS after the game and praised his fans, he said: “The fans are amazing. There are no words. I’ve been here four years and it’s inexplicable. They deserve this joy.

“We had to fight uphill but we never gave up. The teamwork was noticeable on the field.”

Football Espana quoted the Brazilian full back, also, who praised the never say die attitude of his team mates.

“There are still some important games to go,” Filipe Luís said.

“The team has suffered all season. We never give up and we stay patient. The equaliser gave us a lot of encouragement and we learned to manage the game.”

Filipe Luís believes Real Madrid are the toughest opponents Atlético could have played, he added: “A final doesn’t matter who you play.

“Just look at the trophy and you want it. It is the toughest opponent we could have played. They’re the best team in the world.”
