Diego could return to Santos in the summer, according to his father Djair Ribas.
The playmaker is contracted to Atlético Madrid until the end of the season, but it is unclear what his long-term future holds.
When Diego left VfL Wolfsburg for Atlético in January, there was interest from Santos and Djair Ribas claims that they remain keen on bringing him back to the club.
“The interest [between Santos and Diego] is mutual, there is a big chance of him returning to Brazil," he told Globo Esporte, as reported by Sky Sports. "Other Brazilian clubs are interested, but he prefers Santos.
“We will wait until the last games to talk, Diego is under contract with Atlético Madrid and a lot of things can happen."
Diego started his career with Santos. He was part of the side that won the Brasileirão in 2002 and 2004, before moving to Porto.
