Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has announced that he would prefer Chelsea to lose to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi final second leg next week at Stamford Bridge, as it would mean one less game for a few of his Selecao stars as the World Cup looms large.

The London club will have four players ging to the tournament in the form of David Luiz, Oscar, Willian and most likely Ramires, and Scolari told insidefutbol.com: “For me, it would be better if Atletico win.”

“Then I’ll have rested players.”

With the final of the Champions League kicking off on May 24th, three weeks before the World Cup, Scolari has a point. But what does it mean to the Atletico players still harbouring hopes of a call up?

Left back Felipe Luis and midfield crator Diego Ribas had been tipped as outsiders to make the 23-man squad, but this latest statement from Scolari appears to dispel those chances.
