Former Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has backed Luiz Felipe Scolari to lead his country to World Cup glory this summer and lauded the “genius” that is Neymar.

The legendary left-back spoke to Bild about the World Cup and how he has been hugely impressed with the 22-year-old Barcelona forward.

Neymar has come in for criticism lately but Carlos believes he can be key for Brazil this summer.

Goal.com quoted the former Real Madrid defender, he said: “(I think we will win) not only because of the advantage of playing at home, but because Luiz Felipe Scolari changed the way we play football in the Confederations Cup last summer.

“Neymar is a genius. He will be a key player at the World Cup. What is most striking about him is his character. Players with good judgement and confidence are needed.”

Carlos is currently manager of Turkish outfit Sivasspor but does have big ambition for the future, including one day coaching his national team.

He added: “The Bundesliga is incredibly sexy, or do you think Pep Guardiola went over there because Germany has the best beer?

“Maybe I will be the first Brazilian to manage a Bundesliga club.

“One day I want to manage Brazil.”
