Former Brazil and Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber has praised the work of pep Guardiola at the German club and suggested that they have bettered the expectations bestowed on them when the Spanish coach took over last summer.

Speaking with Goal, Elber, who won 15 Brazilian caps, scoring seven goals, said: “I had good expectations for Bayern, but they’ve been impressive so far.”

“In the Bundesliga they are clearly superior to all of their opponents and play wonderful football. I see Bayern Munich as the favourites to win the Champions League along with Real Madrid. The other teams are all underdogs in my opinion.”

Bayern face Real in the Champions League semi final first leg this evening at the Bernabeu Stadium in the Spanish capital.
