Chelsea manager José Mourinho has hailed the effort of his team following Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Atlético Madrid in their Champions League semi-final first leg.

The Blues were on the back foot for large spells of the contest and had to deal with injuries to John Terry and Petr Čech, but held out to secure a vital clean sheet ahead of next week’s second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho singled out numerous players for their respective individual performances, with David Luiz receiving praise.

“[Gary] Cahill did a great job, David [Luiz] started in midfield so it was not easy for him to step back to centre-back [when John Terry went off]," he told UEFA.com.

"Ashley Cole was amazing after weeks without playing. Nando [Torres] was unbelievable. Every player gave everything. So I am very pleased with them."
