The Brazilian has highlighted the importance of Monday night’s victory as the Citizens look to push Liverpool all the way in this year’s Premier League title race.
Manchester City ran out 3-1 winners at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Argentine trio Zabaleta, Agüero and Demichelis.
Man City’s other South American, Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, may not have scored but put in another impressive performance in the heart of midfield.
It was the sort of performance that has earned him a recall into the Brazilian national side and the 28-year-old was keen to highlight the importance of the victory.
“It was important to win and keep our title hopes alive,” he told Lancenet.
“It doesn’t depend on us but we need to do our part and hope that other results go our way.”
“It was also good to return to winning ways following two poor results. We now have four games left. We want to win all of them and then we’ll see where that takes us,” declared the former Shakhtar Donetsk man.
Manchester City are now third in the Premier League with 74 points and with a game in hand on leaders Liverpool (80 points) and Chelsea (75 points).
