The Brazilian is currently sidelined with a foot injury but his father insists that his son is fully focused on returning to playing for his club and not on the World Cup this summer.
Neymar stressed at the end of last week that he is aiming to be fully fit for Barcelona’s final La Liga game of the season against Atletico Madrid, after admitting he was initially fearful over his hopes of playing for Brazil in the summer showpiece after picking up the problem.
The 22-year-old’s father, however, has maintained his son is only thinking about returning to the first-team fold with the Blaugrana and is not becoming distracted by the World Cup.
“He’s sad, because he can’t play for many days. We’re thinking of Barcelona first and then the World Cup,” Neymar Senior told Deportes Quatro.
“He’s doing well, he’s getting better.”
Despite scoring 15 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for his new club, the former Santos player has come in for criticism for some below par performances this season.
