João Miranda has called for Atlético Madrid to continue their rich reign of form and end the season successfully following their 2-0 with over Elche on Friday night.

Diego Costa and Miranda were among the goals to keep Diego Simeone’s side in poll position to win the La Liga title, and the Brazilian defender stated that Atlético will suffer in games when they have to as long as they come out on top.

Miranda spoke with Canal Plus after the game and said: “This was an important win. The team was good and we must carry on like this.

“We’ve got four finals left now and the team knows how to suffer, when we have to suffer. Now though, we must rest and think about the game against Chelsea.”

Miranda’s goal came from an accurate corner kick but he went on to reveal it wasn’t just an unplanned goal, it was a move they have worked on studiously in training.

Inside Spanish Football quoted the defender, he added: “It’s a move we’ve trained for, one we’ve worked on a lot. We have good takers and plenty of quality players at set-pieces.”

The Brazilians goal and solid performance will no doubt have impressed national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari and with rumours circulating that the Atlético defender could be in line for a call up, he’ll hope to end the season successfully.
