Neymar hasn’t enjoyed the best of times recently but things got a whole lot worse for the Brazilian on Thursday when it was revealed that he would be out for at least four weeks.

On Wednesday the Barcelona forward suffered a torrid evening as firstly he was fortunate not to receive a red card for an altercation with Real Madrid defender Fábio Coentrão.

Then, however, the most disappointing moment occured when the 22-year-old missed a guilt-edged chance in stoppage time to level the match but instead he could only fire against the post and Barca lost the Copa del Rey final 2-1.

The following day it was confirmed by the Catalan club that Neymar had injured his metatarsal, a spokesmen for Barcelona said: “The player sustained a contusion which caused an edema in the fourth metatarsal in his left foot.

“He will be sidelined for four weeks.”

A painful blow for Neymar who now seems likely to miss the rest of the club season for Barcelona and it is also a worry with the World Cup approaching this summer.

Although at the moment there are no fears that the Brazilian superstar would miss the summer blockbuster event, his lack of match practice could see him come into the tournament sluggish.

And considering Neymar has the hopes of a nation on his shoulders it would be a catastrophe if he was to start the World Cup not 100% fit.
