Fernandinho: Maybe Man City players are tired because we’ve been competing in four different competitionsBattling on four fronts may have cost City
An exhausted Fernandinho admitted that competing in so many competitions this season could have played a part in Manchester City losing more ground in the title race.
City drew 2-2 with Sunderland yesterday in the Premier League to seriously harm their hopes of winning another league championship.
The Brazilian scored the opening goal in Tuesday's draw but believes trying to win four competitions – Champions League, Capital One Cup, FA Cup and Premier League – has made a difference. Especially considering current league leaders Liverpool have only realistically been challenging for the Premier League and FA Cup this season, after being knocked out of Capital One Cup in the third round.
Talking after the Sunderland draw to Manchester Evening News, Fernandinho explained: “It can make a difference because we have been going for Champions League, Premier League and both cups and maybe our players are feeling a little tired.
“Maybe it has made a difference, but our team was good, especially in December and January.
“In February we were a little down but recovered and made some good performances in March. In April we have tried to play the same way, but last night it wasn’t enough to win the game.”
